Palestinian musician Raouf Belbeisi had dreamt from a young age of creating a vibrant music scene in Gaza. But when war broke out in the besieged enclave, his dreams were shattered along with his home.
Now, Belbeisi is among a group of Gazan musicians looking to rebuild their lives in Egypt. They have fled the violence and destruction in their homeland, but they are determined to keep their music alive.
Belbeisi and his fellow musicians have formed a band called "Al-Awda" (The Return). They play traditional Palestinian music, as well as their own compositions. Their music is a way to express their longing for their homeland and to share their culture with the world.
The musicians face many challenges in Egypt. They are undocumented immigrants, and they do not have the right to work. They also face discrimination from some Egyptians, who view them as outsiders.
Despite the challenges, the musicians are determined to succeed. They believe that their music can be a force for peace and reconciliation. They hope that one day they will be able to return to Gaza and play their music for their people.
Their story is a reminder of the human cost of war and displacement. It is also a story of hope and resilience. The musicians of Al-Awda are determined to rebuild their lives and to share their music with the world.
