Maryland Volleyball Seeks Tournament Sweep at LSU Event
The Terrapins Are Looking to Extend Their Three-Game Winning Streak
Maryland volleyball will travel to Baton Rouge this weekend looking to win the LSU Invitational and extend their current three-game winning streak.
Coming off back-to-back wins over George Mason and George Washington, the Terps defeated Princeton 3-1 on Tuesday night to move to 4-1 on the young season.
Here's what you need to know about the Terps' trip to LSU:
- Maryland will open the tournament against Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday at 11 a.m. ET.
- The Terps will then take on LSU on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
- Maryland will wrap up the tournament against Nicholls State on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Terps are led by a balanced attack, with four players averaging at least two kills per set. Junior outside hitter Sam Csire leads the way with 3.38 kills per set, followed by sophomore outside hitter Laila Ricks (2.75 kills per set), junior middle blocker Anya Bogomazova (2.50 kills per set) and sophomore outside hitter Emma Ulmer (2.25 kills per set).
Maryland's defense has also been solid this season, led by senior libero Kelsey Wichelman. Wichelman is averaging 4.29 digs per set, while Csire is adding 2.69 digs per set and Ulmer is chipping in with 2.19 digs per set.
The Terps will be looking to continue their strong start to the season this weekend in Baton Rouge. With a pair of wins over ranked opponents already under their belt, Maryland is hoping to add to their resume with a strong showing at the LSU Invitational.
