Mississippi State Needs a New Coach

Arnett Fired After 4-6 Start

Mississippi State has fired head coach Zach Arnett after just one season at the helm. The Bulldogs finished the 2022 season with a 4-6 record, including a 1-5 mark in SEC play. Arnett was hired in December 2021 after spending the previous five seasons as the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State. He is the first head coach to be fired by Mississippi State since Dan Mullen was fired in 2008.

A Challenging Job

The head coaching job at Mississippi State is one of the most challenging in all of college football. The Bulldogs have not won an SEC championship since 1941 and have only won 10 games in a season twice since 2000. Arnett was tasked with turning around a program that had gone 6-6 in each of the past two seasons. However, he was unable to get the Bulldogs to the next level.
