Mississippi State Fires Football Coach Zach Arnett

Arnett was in his first season leading the Bulldogs

The news comes after a disappointing 3-9 record

Mississippi State has fired football coach Zach Arnett after less than one season, the school announced Monday.

The move comes after a disappointing 3-9 record in Arnett's first year at the helm.

Arnett, 36, was hired away from San Jose State in December 2022.

He was previously the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State from 2018-2021.

Athletic director Zac Selmon said in a statement that the decision to fire Arnett was "not made lightly."

"We appreciate Zach's hard work and dedication to Mississippi State," Selmon said.

"However, we believe that a change in leadership is necessary at this time."

Arnett's firing comes on the heels of a tumultuous season for the Bulldogs.

The team lost its first six games of the season and finished with a 3-9 record.

Arnett is the second Mississippi State football coach to be fired in the past three years.

Joe Moorhead was fired in 2019 after three seasons.
